Stanford scientists found a way to regrow cartilage and stop arthritis

Scientists have found a way to regrow aging cartilage, raising hopes for arthritis treatments that could make joint replacements obsolete.

Scientists at Stanford Medicine have discovered a treatment that can reverse cartilage loss in aging joints and even prevent arthritis after knee injuries. By blocking a protein linked to aging, the therapy restored healthy, shock-absorbing cartilage in old mice and injured joints, dramatically improving movement and joint function. Human cartilage samples from knee replacement surgeries also began regenerating when exposed to the treatment
.

Well, that would be super useful ... if it's not blocked by megacorps making the current arthritis treatments. Then again, most politicians are old and would probably like to have this option, so maybe they'll tell the megacorps to fuck off for once.

Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

:: Morning brings a new idea, leavingEdison home alone for a few minutes. Part of the Edison’s Mirror (Teague Family) story arc. ::

:: Author’s note: Complications today meant that pausing at THIS break point was prudent for many reasons. Enjoy! ::

By the time Edison clambered out of the nest of blankets and the large mattress on the living room floor, it was cold only inches away from where he had slept. “Vic? Aidan?” he asked. Mac made a soft ‘mrrr’ noise, only flicking an ear toward him as he took step clear of the blankets.

This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls, inspired by a discussion with [personal profile] a_natural_beauty. It also fills the "WILD CARD: Denial" square in my 2-1-25 card for the Valentines Bingo fest. It has been sponsored by a pool with [personal profile] fuzzyred.

TMS BS

My sleep score last night was 86/100 with "interruptions" being my weakest link. I slept to my alarm and slept with my slanted pillow, but I'm not wholly sure if it's right for me. I dunno. It's really hard finding the best sleep position, with my allergy issues and whatnot.

I did more gaming this morning and had a walk after lunch.

This afternoon I got a call from the TMS place and they said my prior authorization for the therapy was denied since they didn't get the specified dose amounts for all the psychiatric goofenthal I had taken during all my years in psychiatry, and I told them that the records from my previous psychiatrists I uploaded possibly had them. It didn't seem like they had the records from my second and third psychiatrists so I uploaded them to that secure link they provided as well, along with my old LiveJournal I kept from 2007-2024 showing I never really got better, even though my records may have said otherwise. I'm really sick of providers pretending I know off the top of my head specific shit from my medical past and wish they would actually read all my records first.

Here's a cute psychiatry cartoon I made through SeaArt. These were inspired by Truth Theory "rhyming" memes set in the classroom where "bullshit" rhymes with stuff that doesn't actually rhyme with it.

But again, I am living, breathing proof psych meds don't work. They destroyed my late maternal cousin and I think could be increasing suicides and causing homicides in America as well. Big Pharma definitely needs a new Nuremberg Trial.

I defrosted and cut up one of the chicken filets from a pack I got from one of the food pantries, mixing it with barbecue sauce and spices and air-frying it with sliced carrots, and it was decent.

I finally started typing what will be the next chapter of my novel from my current notebook (I didn't divide my story into chapters when I wrote it out). It's still really slow-going due to my mental health shit.

I'm getting the inspiration back today, Fritz! Don't you want to change an annoying experience online into a cool, funky song? XD

(Mood: Cool. Catchy. Turning a very confusing to annoying interaction online into something that makes you want to groove and dance. Genre: Emo Rock, Pop, and Funk fusion! This is intended to be a really fun, catchy song.)

Lyrics )

This sounds so damn funky, amusing, and fun! Muse and I altogether are so glad we decided to make this song. Amazingly fun!!

My friend a_cat helped me come up with an anti-bully prompt for him from now on. That way, Fritz won't have to get pissy and waste anymore energy on any dumb garbage trolls.

Cow are the latest animals observed using tools, reopening the debate about animal intelligence

Researchers report the first documented case of tool use in cattle, based on a Swiss Brown cow named Veronika who doesn’t just grab an object and rub it against herself.

She chooses the “right” part of a tool for the job, changes her technique depending on where she’s scratching, and repeats those choices in a way that looks consistent and intentional.

Today is sunny and cold.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a flock of sparrows.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 1/20/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 1/20/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

I've seen at least one starling.

EDIT 1/20/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

We brought in more firewood to stack beside the stove.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Here's an interesting observation:

Hey ding-dongs, let’s have a chit-chat about Ablaut reduplication.

If you have three words, the order usually goes 'I-A-O.'
-tic-tac-toe

If there are only two words, ‘I’ is the first and the second is either ‘A’ or ‘O.’
-click-clack
-King-Kong

I can think of a few exceptions, like "bone-dry," and more rhymes like "helter-skelter." Some like "merry-go-round" seem to follow a similar high to low pattern.
